A sinus lift, sometimes referred as ‘sinus augmentation’ as well, is a surgery that adds bone to your upper jaw in the space between your molars and premolars, which is also the space between your jaw and the maxillary sinuses on either side of your nose. To make room for the bone, the sinus membrane is moved upwards, or is “lifted”. A sinus lift surgery is usually performed by a dental specialist like an oral maxillofacial surgeon or a Periodontist. In many cases, sinus lift surgery is considered as an ideal solution to enhance the upper jaw in order to accommodate special dental implants when the available bone is not sufficient.
